My family comes from a small village in County Galway, just outside of Galway city. Our Clan is steeped in tradition, and everyone, in the whole of Ireland, knows of the McMurphy's, and our many contributions to civilization.

It was my great, great, great Grandfather, Brian John Patrick McMurphy that built the famous Blarney Castle, the home of Blarney Stone. It took 6 years to build and 2 million stones, 600 kegs of stout, 300 cases of Irish Whiskey, 3000 loaves of soda bread, 800 batches of Cousin Katie's stew, and 1084 Craics ("cracks" Gaelic for good times and parties.)

It was my great Uncle, Declan Thomas Finn McMurphy, who was the first person to accept wagers on horse racing at the famous Galway Races.'Twas himself that started pari-mutual bettin'.

My great, great Grandfather, Seamus Tom McMurphy, in the hills outside of Galway, invented the pot still and produced a spirit called Poteen (pocheen), which eventlually led to his very "quick" departure and the immigration of the McMurphy's to the U.S. He first settled in the hills of Tennessee, but move to Chicago during Prohibition.

It was Cousin Katie McMurphy who created Guinness Stew as a result of a dancin' accident. You see, she was dancin' a jig with a pint in her hand at the kitchen stove when she "lost" her balance, the stout fell into the stew pot. The whole family loved that stew and would return every Saturday for it. "Till this day, it's a McMurphy tradition to dance the jig while making stew!!"

And my contributions to the McMurphy Clan's reputation is providing the finest Irish dishes, great stout, the best Irish whiskies, the friendliest staff, cozy Irish surroundings, and a bit o'Blarney to all the visitors of Auburn.
